First off, special thanks to Mazda for allowing us to review this cool little car for a week. Overview: At first glance the Mazda3 is a stylish looking sporty car with cutting edge technology that helps the driver stay safe on the road. It has very sculpted lines and curves that set it apart from other cars on the road. Design: The car is made 95% in Japan from design to assembly, therefore the car has a very Asian look to it. That look really comes through with the clear white rear lights. The car has a good overall style that is geared toward being cool and fresh. The headlights wrap along the side of the car making them very pronounced. Looking head on, the car just looks simply happy with its large black front fascia. Mazda offers the car in many different color choices and I must say the velocity red is my favorite since it really makes this car come alive. Gone are the days when you can't find you car in the parking lot! Technology: This tester came equipped with the optional bi-xenon self leveling headlamps, it's a really great feature to have on any car let alone a car of its class. It allows you to see what's around that curve before you get there. A lot of cutting edge safety technology went into this car. Another great example, would be the blind spot warring system, a small orange warning light is illuminated when there is a car on either side of the vehicle. It's a very useful system, especially when on the highway. We also have push to start and keyless entry. One tech feature that is not offered that I would really like to see is a rear backup camera, you would think with all these other cutting edge features that would have a simple back up camera. Thankfully the car is fairly easy to see out of when backing up. Interior: The interior is definitely a highlight of this car. It came with very nice full leather seating. The seats were very comfortable and had great side supports for quick turns. Driver ' s side is electric while the passenger seat is not. The steering wheel is fully leather wrapped as well with audio and station controls. However one odd thing about the station control button is that in order to go up a preset, you need to push the button down and if you want to go down, you need to punch the button up. Not a big deal, however it's rather odd. Now this being a top trim level, we had the full media system that included Nav, Hd radio, serous sat radio, Bluetooth streaming, Aux, USB and Pandora. The Nav system has been greatly improved from before now featuring a larger screen and TomTom maps. My favorite option on the interior is the Bose center point 10 speaker system, coupled with the Hd radio and you feel Ike you are sitting front seat at the symphony. Rear seat leg room is average and trunk space is par for the course. The one downfall of the interior is the cabin noise, it gets rather noisy in the car at highway speeds. It could definitely use some more sound proofing. Overall the interior is comfortable and includes a lot of cool useful features when it comes down to technology. Driving:The driving experience that the 3 offers is really unique since this car is using Mazda's sky active technology. It gives you more power and better fuel economy all in one. When driving a normally aspirated 4 cylinder you will normally notice that in order to get the amount of power you want, you need to rev to higher rpm's since 4s generally have little torque on the low end. However with this sky active technology, it increases the compression ratio and also gives you better low end power. It's a 2.0L 4 cylinder producing 155hp @ 6000 rpm's and 148 lb-ft @ 4100 rpm's. The power is mounted to a six speed automatic transmission with a manual shift option. Here's where it gets good, 32 City 40 highway observed. Overall the Mazda3 is a practical, fun car to have and drive. Conclusion:If you are in the market for a sporty practical car that will not break the bank then you should seriously consider the Mazda3. It's comes with many great and useful tech features and with the sky active technology you will get 30+ mpg all day long. Our tester with every option came to about $27,000. We hope you enjoyed this article please check back soon for more up to date car reviews. |
